An original way of retaining the colours and identity of the Aston Martin programme whilst approaching a race weekend with a completely different mindset.
A racing break… but there’s no question of taking it easy
Whilst the main aim was clearly to enjoy the weekend, the competition was, of course, never far away.
The 25-Hour FunCup remains a particularly demanding event, featuring a long race, numerous driver changes and constant on-track battles.
But unlike the ADAC GT Masters weekends, the pressure to perform was somewhat different this time round.
No championship to fight for, no points to chase at all costs: just the joy of driving, sharing a car and battling it out on the track with great people.
And that is precisely what made this experience so special.
A team experience above all else
Beyond the sporting result, Baudouin will remember above all the moments shared with the whole crew, comprising his dad, Jean Pol Toucheque (DealerShip Manager at Aston Martin Luxembourg), Paul Boas and, of course, the Comtoyou Racing team.
Getting to spend time with some of the people he races alongside throughout the season in a more relaxed setting made for a very different kind of weekend.
For whilst the atmosphere in the paddock was more relaxed, the competitive spirit was still very much in evidence once the helmets were fastened.
Spending a weekend without the usual pressure, whilst still retaining that desire to fight for every position: a rather pleasant combination.
The same colours, a different car
For the occasion, FunCup car No. 007 sported livery inspired by Baudouin Detout’s GT3 programme.
A lovely nod to the past, bringing Aston Martin’s colours back into the mix amidst a particularly lively FunCup field.
Having competed in Europe’s biggest GT3 events, this experience also serves as a reminder of one essential thing: the joy of driving remains the same, whatever the car.
Whether behind the wheel of an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO or a FunCup, the pursuit of performance, teamwork and on-track battles remain at the heart of the experience.
A brief break before returning to GT3
This weekend therefore offered Baudouin Detout a welcome break from a particularly busy season.
A weekend with less pressure, but just as much passion, competition and shared enjoyment.
An experience that might well give us some ideas for the future…
Next stop… Daytona? 👀
